The
National Resistance Movement party offices in Luweero district have been close
due to accumulated rent arrears. The Luweero District NRM party office operates
in rented premises belonging to Kasoma and Sons Enterprises Limited, a short
distance from the district headquarters.
Mahad
Sserunkuma, the Manager of Kasoma and Sons Enterprises Limited stormed the
premises yesterday and threw out the party officials. He accused the party of
none payment of rent for the last eight months to the tune of Shillings 1.6
million.
David Kamugisha, the Luweero District NRM Registrar, describes the closure of
the party offices as illegal and unfair, saying the landlord didn't give them
any notice. He pleaded with Sserunkuma to open the offices as he writes to the
NRM Secretariat over the arrears.Ronald Ndawula, the Luweero District NRM Chairperson, says the officials at the
NRM secretariat don't pick calls, which has made it difficult for him to follow
up on the rent. He says it is unfortunate for the office to be closed when they
need it most to coordinate and campaign for party candidates in the LC 1 polls.
