15% of the
learners at Kamwenge primary school do not take lunch at school. This was
disclosed yesterday by Mbalukuze Gastone the Head teacher Kamwenge primary
school while meeting parents of learners from Primary six to primary seven.
Mbalukuze
said the challenge contributes to the poor performance of some learners.
In 2013, government
designed the school feeding and nutrition guidelines to improve child health,
nutrition and educational performance. But some schools are still unable to
implement them.
Last year in November, the
Education and Sports Ministry named a 25 member working group to spear head the
school feeding sensitization campaigns among parents and guardians countrywide.
Speaking recently during
the commissioning of primary schools which were constructed in Ibanda district
under Global Partenership for Education (GPE) a World Bank funded project, Minister Sennide directed all
primary schools to ensure that learners take lunch at school.
