Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Esther Nahirya has
charged former Bundibugyo Woman MP Hon Harriet Ntabazi, with 3 counts relating
to forgery of academic documents.
The prosecutors from the Office of the Inspectorate of
Government (IGG) led by Wilberforce Mutebule allege that between December 2015
and October 2016, Ntabaazi knowingly uttered a false UACE certificate both to
the Electoral Commission and to investigators from the IGG’s office, purporting
that the said certificate had been issued by UNEB which is not true.
IGG says her investigations later established that the
purpose of Ntabazi’s actions was to be nominated to contest for election on the
seat of Bundibugyo district woman MP.The former MP denied all the charges.
Court further heard from Ntabazi’s lawyers led by Mwesigye
Humphrey that she had been summoned to appear at IGG’s office yesterday for
further investigations but she was instead whisked away to court.
Ntabazi asked court to release her on bail pending the
hearing of her case. She presented 3 sureties including her brother Suiz
Kyomuhendo a University lecturer.
Court ruled in her favour, releasing her on a Shs 5
million cash bail.
