Story by Peter Busobozi
Taxi drivers in Kamwenge town council have abandoned
the taxi park and opted to operate along the roadside. The taxi drivers
accuse the town council authorities of failing to plan properly in consultation
with them, which saw them setting up the taxi park outside the central business
district.
Julius Tugume, a taxi driver plying the Kamwenge-
Ibanda road, says the taxi park is located outside the busy section of the
town, which denies them business.
Traders who own business in Kamwenge taxi park accuse
the town council authorities of remaining silent on the matter despite several
pleas from locals and the business community.
Efforts by our reporter to speak to Kobwemi Bosco the chairperson
Kamwenge Taxi Drivers and Owners Association were fruitless as he could not
answer his mobile phone.
Enock Kakuhikyire, the Town Clerk Kamwenge town
council says the decision by the drivers to operate on the roadsides is
unacceptable. He says they are already engaging the leaders of the taxi drivers
to ensure that all taxis return to the taxi park to get rid of confusion from
the main road.
