Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) Chairperson Dr Deus Muhwezi Kamunyu has asked the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe to apologize for issuing threats against staff.
Through his lawyers of
Byarugaba & Co. Advocates, Dr. Kamunyu in his June 18, 2018 letter to the
Vice-Chancellor demanded a recall in writing of his directive and an apology
within 14 days without fail.
The letter copied to
the University Council Chairperson, members of the University Management and
the MUASA executive indicate that failure to comply, the lawyers have been instructed
to seek court redress.
According to his
lawyers, Dr. Kamunyu is the MUASA and by virtue of his office he, on behalf of
the Executive and all members of MUASA raises concerns affecting his constituency.
Dr. Kamunyu raised concerns relating to the illegal appointments by the
Appointments Board, Irregular amendment of the Human Resource Manual by
Council, interfering with operations of the Staff Tribunal, the problem of land
grabbing involving officers of the university and irregular appointments by
Council seeking that these issues be addressed for the proper management and
administration of the university.
Prof. Nawangwe issued on
warning letter to Dr. Kamunyu on June 12 directing him to stop making
unsubstantiated allegations against officers and organs of the
University.
