EC Rejects Calls to Extend Updating Village Registers for LC 1 elections|Vok News

The Electoral Commission has rejected calls to extend the exercise to update the Village Residents' Register for LC I Chairpersons and Women Councils elections.

The Electoral Commission set July 10, 2018, as the date for LCI Polls. In preparation for the polls, the Commission set June 22-25, for updating the registers for 60,801 villages across the Country. The exercise intended to give chance to those who missed the mass registration last year to register for the village polls

The exercise ended yesterday but the local leaders in Luweero district are asking for an extension of the updating exercise saying it left out many people. The LCI Chairpersons accuses Electoral Commission of not doing enough to publicize the exercise leading to low turnout.

Ronald Ndawula, the LCV Chairman of Luweero district says that its unfortunate many people didn't take the exercise seriously yet the chairpersons are key in local governments.

But the Deputy Spokesperson of Electoral Commission Paul Bukenya says that the Commission doesn't intend to extend the exercise because the time given was enough and convenient to all willing Ugandans.

Bundibugyo Police are holding a man accused of killing his mother for allegedly practicing witchcraft.
The Bundibugyo District Police Commander, Swaib Taban identifies the suspect as Maliko Birungi, a resident of Buganikere trading center in Buganikere town council in Bundibugyo district.
According to Taban, yesterday the 36-year-old Birungi hit his 70-year-old mother, Cecilia Kabatooro with a hoe on the head. He threatened to kill whoever attempts to rescue her.
